Here he is, St Peter Chanel of the Staffroom; saving the souls of wayward convent girls and having his head stoved in for unsolicited missioning. How the nuns fluttered when men came a visiting; how they loved a Christian man. We had to write a letter of apology for baiting a priest who stood in for an absent teacher. Never leaving our desks we used words to make him squirm; poor sop, convent girls look and learn their lessons well. For every bitter turn of phrase hurled our way we hurled them back, our thoughts distracted; that fetching pair of hot pants and a glam rock soundtrack; gods come in many guises.
