Saint Catherine
Catherine out argued the philosophers and refused to marry, being a Bride of Christ. She was tortured on a wheel; the wheel didn’t kill her, it was the executioner’s axe. She is the patron saint of young girls and students, philosophers, artists and craft makers; Catherine is painted against a wheel in classical art. I paint her dressed in feathers and school uniform; she is a student, a warrior. With references to Burne Jones’ beggar maid, she sits looking down on her admirer, still a bunch of vegetables; Catherine rejected the Emperor
Catherine is my middle name;
Catherine is a firework;
Last words to Ms Katy Perry

Cause baby you’re a firework
Come on show ’em what you’re worth
Make ’em go “Oh, oh, oh!”
As you shoot across the sky-y-y
